Descartes’s Discourse I-III

Today we looked at the first half of the Discourse. Some things to pay attention to:

(1) The architectural analogy, and the emphasis on good foundations, recurs quite frequently.

(2) The four rules in Part II are key: you should develop a general familiarity with them.

(3) What’s going on in Part III? This notion of a provisional morality is an interesting one to bring up here, and you should be thinking about its implications for the method.
